Some rather exciting things arrived at chez Birdington last week.

Black Hunter Chatel snow boots. I found out about these elephantine boots on LibertyLondonGirl and they have now made their way into my ever-expanding shoe collection. They’re huge, fugly and unflattering. But I don’t care. Because the thought of where I will be wearing them is whipping me up into bit of a frenzy.

I’ve secretly always wanted some Moonboots. When I was a teenager I thought these were the coolest snowy footwear possible, all the chic French kids had them. But the French are still wearing them and I’ve been trying to establish whether this is because they’re so fashion forward that no one else has realised they’re cool again, or whether as a nation their ski wardrobes are still stuck in 1989. I suspect the latter. I mean, they still wear salopettes.

And so although I’ve always wanted some, I’ve been too terrified of making a ski fashion faux pas to buy any. But now Hunter have produced their own version, and as they are a brand that I implicitly trust, if they say it’s ok to wear huge sleeping bags with rubber soles on your feet, then I’m in.

On the same day we received a package that contained, amongst other things, an Espace Killy piste map and a Scott Dunn luggage label.

So all this adds up to one thing. We’re going skiing. To Val d’Isere. With Scott Dunn. In two weeks. And I can’t wait.

  1. Hey thanks for the shoutout & linkage! Must appreciated, and glad you like them as much as I do. (I know, I’m biased, but I DO!) LLGxx

Thank you Sasha for taking the time to comment, that’s really nice of you and much appreciated! They are fab, I can’t wait to wear them :) xx

  2. Forget fashion, these Hunter’s are fab. They remind me of my childhood back in the 80′s – my mum bought my sister and I a navy blue pair from a children’s stall at our local market. I wore them to death and remember those times with great fondness. SAx x

They were proper eighties attire! We had a lot more snow then though didn’t we?

We did! big fat snowdrifts on the walk to school, nose running, peeking through a cold frozen up scarf and wearing those mittens on strings that fed through your coat from one arm to another :-)

        • annie says:

Ah I never had those, I was so envious of kids who did :(
But the snowdrifts were amazing, I can remember building snow tunnels through the garden there was so much of the stuff! And we used to get snowed into our village sometimes and not be able to get to school. That was awesome.

    Very jealous!!

  4. Boyfriend says:

Nothing wrong with Salopettes! Or 1989 for that matter.

You look great so they must be super cool and full of awesomeness! How exciting that you’re going skiing. I don’t ski, but I love snow and all things wintery. I’m very, very good at apres-ski. Very good.

I love your snow boots and please, you have skinny legs so they look great on you…. I used to have moonboots, both in white and black. I felt so grown up and trendy. They were the attire in the 80′s in Cortina d’ampezzo…

Now I can’t think of anything worse and would opt for hunter’s snow boots anyday. Bjorn Borg’s label had cool ones years ago. Not sure they still do them.

I already commented on how jealous I am of your skiing trip to Val d’Isere. Go on, keep rubbing it in…. :) I know you will have a great time. I look forward to the pics and stories on your blog posts so I can grow a green head!!!

Now those are some boots, sister! Love it…who cares as long as you don’t get wet. I wore my Sorels all weekend and thank goodness for those!

    • annie says:

Thanks Johanna, they freaked me out a bit at first and I was going to send them back. But then I tried them on with a few outfits rather than just my pjs (only a girl would try snow boots on with different ensembles, can you imagine a bloke doing that?) and now I loveeeee them!

  8. Have a fab time – can you fit me in your suitcase!?!

  9. Erin says:

Love love love the boots and I am so jealous you are going skiing in France! You have to make sure to take a million pictures of how snowy and gorgeous the scenery is and your chalet, as well.

(loved “Chez Birdington” too! Our last names have two too many z’s in them to combine without sounding like a nightmare.)

And I forgot to mention that in my teenage years I lusted after a pair of rainbow striped moonboots and my mother wouldn’t buy them for me because she thought they were garish and horrible. Years later I realize that she was right, but still. It sucked back then

    We’re staying here: http://bit.ly/wLxapa

It’s awesome, we’ve stayed in it before. I’m not overjoyed that we’re staying somewhere called ‘Pauline’ but I’m prepared to let that go.

But I’ve seen some of the outfits your mum dressed you in!!!!

I couldn’t decide between Birdington and Hungtinbird. I do like good portmanteau!

  11. Theresa says:

The moonboots with the black skinnies and Alexander McQueen scarf make for one fabulous outfit. Anyway, once your there, I suspect you won’t care what you look like…You’ll be skiing in the French Alps!!! The pure awesomeness of that environment is going to really downplay any worries you have about your attire.
Sorel boots are all the rage here in the States. I don’t ski, but I snowboard (yup, one of those). I don’t know if we will even get a ski season this year. It’s been unseasonably warm in these parts.
Have a blast! Looking forward to (vicariously) going on this trip with you.

    • annie says:

Those Sorel boots are quite cool aren’t they? They are a bit less conspicuous, more like normal boots. Yeay let’s all go skiing/boarding together!

  12. I don’t ski but I’m so envious that you get to go somewhere glamorous that requires new boots (that do NOT look unflattering, by the way – quite the opposite!).

I’m happy to join the group ski/snowboarding expedition but I’d have to be piggybacked. I’m much lighter than I look ……….. honest!!! :D

  13. It’s hard to look stylish in the snow and those boots are rad! Have a wonderful trip.

  14. Elly says:

Aaaah, so jealous. I miss skiing so bad!! Love the ‘sleeping bags’ – look so warm and comfy. Have a wonderful time, look forward to seeing the pics!xx

Thanks Guys! You will be hearing all about it, whether you want to or not! ;)
